Christy Mathewson was a Major League Baseball pitcher for the New York Giants from 1900-1916. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds in July 1916 and became a player-manager. Mathewson retired as a player after that season and managed the Reds for both the 1917 and 1918 seasons. Mathewson is a right-handed pitcher with a career ERA of 2.13. He is a five-time NL ERA leader (1905, 1908, 1909, 1911, 1913), five-time NL strikeout leader (1903-1905, 1907, 1908), two-time World Series champion (1905, 1921) and has pitched two no-hitter games. In 1936, he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His NY jersey has been retired by the Giants (uniform numbers were not used during the time Mathewson played for the Giants).
