Reid Rizzo - "Without Fear"
Reid was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the son of proud parents, Tim and Lisa Rizzo, and big brother to sister, Nicole. At the age of 3 months, Reid was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy, a life threatening heart condition. Doctors told the Rizzo family that Reid would never be able to run, ride a bike or play sports. Reid defied the odds by playing baseball, football, basketball and hockey. As a freshman at LaSalle High School, he became one of the youngest players in history to earn a starting position on the varsity baseball team. He ranks among the all-time leaders in many single season and career categories. Reid earned a baseball scholarship to Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. He became the starting shortstop and set several single season records as a sophomore. Tragically he peacefully passed away in his sleep one month later in June 2012. Reid accomplished all of this without anyone outside of his immediate family knowing that he was living with this condition. Additionally, he was more concerned about his family’s well-being than his own. He never let his family or anyone else feel sorry for what he had to endure during his 21 years of life.
Reid’s spirit lives on in each of those who knew him and in those who believe that all things are possible through Christ. Reid’s tattoos inspire many to live their lives to the fullest. His belief in family and his desire to be a positive role model for his younger sister and others exemplify who Reid was as a human being. Those who knew him find his story to be inspirational.
I had the honor of knowing Reid and coaching him for many years in the sport we both love. He was an amazing young man and I was honored to paint him for the foundation in his name - www.reidrizzofoundation.com
